Marlana Hairston earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources Management (1998) and a master’s degree in Public Administration and Policy Analysis (2003) from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She began working for the Higher Education Consortium of Metropolitan St. Louis in January 2001. Marlana enjoys working to support the advancement of her community. Her grandmother was a dominating influence in her life growing up. She taught her to go to school, get good grades, stay out of trouble, be kind and have integrity in all situations. One of her favorite quotes is by Michelle Obama “For me, education was power.” She feels that this really resonates with her as to the value of education and what she wants for her community.
